The Curious About Memorial seminar is designed to acquaint you with our church, including our history, beliefs, convictions and our commitment to being a church for the city.
Curious About Memorial is held either as a class on Wednesday nights or as a one-weekend seminar. The Seminar is held approximately every other month. It includes a discussion over dinner on Friday night 6-9 PM and several seminar sessions the following Saturday morning 9 AM - 12 PM. Participants are given a free book to read in advance. In the past, we have used Don Miller’s Searching for God Knows What. Childcare is provided for both Friday evening and Saturday morning by request. Questions we discuss during the seminar include How do people today (mis-)perceive Christianity? What is Christianity? Why is it needed? What does it mean that grace alone—not guilt or shame or people-pleasing—can motivate us? What does Christian community look like? What does it mean to be a member of a church? Of this church? What vows do I have to take? What does it mean for my life to have a story? Curious About Memorial is the first step toward becoming a member of Memorial, where you will discover both the privileges and responsibilities of membership. For those who do choose to join the church, the Curious about Memorial seminar is an prerequisite. The seminar involves no expectation of commitment on your part. Who Should Attend?
Anyone and everyone who regularly attends Memorial Church should make it a point to attend this seminar one weekend. If you have just started attending church and want to know more about the church or about Christianity, this will give a foundation in the basics. The seminar will also give you time face-to-face with the pastors of the church, helping you get to know them.
You can sign up for the seminar by contacting the church office at 314.721.0943.
