Local Ministries
As an urban church, the people of Memorial have a commitment to bring the mercy of Jesus to St. Louis. There is always a temptation for churches and ministries to spend all their resources on themselves—to build their own kingdom. As we face that temptation at Memorial, we counter it by investing in ministries over which we have no control and from which we receive no direct benefit.
Local ministries we support include ministries of word and ministries of deed like More Than Carpentry.
Financial Assistance & the Mercy Fund
Financial assistance provided by the Diaconate is funded entirely by the donations of individuals at Memorial. We are therefore accountable to the congregation to be wise stewards of these resources.
When a congregant seeks financial assistance, a member of the Diaconate will first ask to go over their budget. Requests are considered based on basic living needs. Each request for financial assistance goes through a review process—sometimes involving several people. Congregants requesting assistance may be advised to consider letting go of non-essential living expenses before assistance is approved. Financial assistance may continue over time, but always with the intent of reducing and eventually discontinuing financial assistance when appropriate. Because it is very likely that a deacon will become quite involved with the specifics of your life and circumstances, confidentiality is very important. All information shared with the Diaconate is kept confidential to the best of their ability and within reason, insofar as Christ allows.
Donations to the Mercy Fund may be placed in the Mercy Box at the back of the sanctuary, or they may be placed in the offering plate Sunday mornings, of they may be mailed to the church office. Please identify your gift as a donation to the Mercy Fund.
