Global Ministries

For a century and a half, the people of Memorial have had a commitment to global Christianity. We are deeply aware of the temptation churches and ministries feel to spend all their resources on themselves—to build their own kingdom. That is a temptation we all face.

Our solution is to give it away.

Although we—as an urban church with many young members and an old building—have a very limited budget, we are committed to investing a significant percentage of our yearly budget on churches and ministries outside Memorial, with a particular burden for those with an international scope.

Because the purpose of God is to bring the whole world together in Christ, we’re eager to send our members and faithfully support them and others in God’s world mission. As the majority of the world’s population is now urban, our vision encompasses cities around the world, that they too be renewed socially, spiritually, culturally and physically. We seek a vital, urban, diverse and global church for an international Christianity.

Christianity is not a western religion. Christ is the creator and Redeemer of all cultures, loves all cultures, and seeks to serve, wash and renew all cultures. We do not seek to spread western culture, as if it were better than others. Rather, we speak of the Person Jesus. Jesus loves all people, and he calls his followers to love them and to bring his Welcome to all people (Matthew 28:18-20). This is part of God’s sovereign purpose to call out a people for himself “from every tribe and people and language and nation” (Revelation 5:9).
