Deaconess for September 2010

Amanda Baca

My husband, David, and I were both born and raised in St. Louis and grew up in the PCA.  We had the blessing of coming to know Christ at an early age and first met in second grade at Covenant Christian School. After parting ways, twelve years later, the Lord brought us together again at Chesterfield PCA where we were later married.

After graduating from Westminster Christian Academy, I received my elementary/special education degree from Samford University in Birmingham, AL. David and I were married in 2004 and then lived in Rolla, MO, where he finished up his engineering degrees and I taught first grade.  God led us to serve in Uganda in 2006 with Engineering Ministries International (EMI) where I taught 5th grade. After our year there, we moved to South City (a whole new part of STL for us!) and started attending Memorial. I was blessed to teach a year at Twin Oaks Christian School before our son, Blaise, was born in July, 2008.  I love being a new mother (with all it's joys-and challenges!) and we are greatly anticipating the birth of our second child due the end of October!

We’ve been attending Memorial for about three years now and have been blessed by the warmth and welcome of the congregation. I have enjoyed many new friendships and getting "plugged in" though various ministries including our small group, Tuesday morning Bible study, serving on the Women's Ministry Team, planning baby showers, and now leading as a deaconess.

As Carolyn, a fellow deaconess, said last month, "providing a meal for someone in a time of need, whether for a new baby's birth or an illness or hospitalization, is a wonderful way to share Christ's love in a tangible way." I know it has blessed me to share with others-even if it's a church family that I don't know well.  Please contact me or the church if you are in need of meals or if you are willing to serve your fellow brothers and sisters by providing a meal or support. My contact information can be found in our church directory. Thank you!
